Water Damage Insurance Claims

Water damage is one of the most common property insurance claims in the country and one of the most consistently undervalued. Burst pipes, appliance failures, storm-driven rain intrusion, and sewer backups cause damage that travels far beyond what is immediately visible. Moisture penetrates wall assemblies, subfloor systems, and insulation before it appears on finished surfaces. Insurance company adjusters conduct fast inspections and routinely miss this hidden damage. We use moisture mapping, thermal imaging, and thorough structural assessment to document every affected area and build a claim that accounts for the true cost of complete restoration, not just the damage that is easy to see.

shieldWhy Hire a Public Adjuster

Water damage claims involve technical questions about cause, coverage scope, and hidden damage that carriers use to limit what they pay. Adjusters regularly classify covered sudden losses as pre-existing conditions, miss secondary moisture damage inside wall cavities and below flooring, underestimate mold remediation costs, or attribute damage to gradual leakage rather than a covered event. We know the tactics carriers use on water claims and where they cut corners. Our inspections use moisture meters and thermal imaging to detect penetration behind finished surfaces. We prepare a detailed claim package that is difficult to dispute and negotiate from a position of documented evidence. You pay nothing unless we improve your settlement.

How it works

Our Water Damage claims process

01

Free claim review

We start with a no-cost review of your policy and the damage. We tell you honestly what your claim is likely worth, which coverages apply, and whether we can improve your settlement. There is no pressure and no obligation to move forward after this initial conversation.

02

Full damage documentation

We conduct a thorough property inspection, using moisture meters and thermal imaging to map water penetration behind walls, under flooring, and inside ceiling assemblies. We document every affected area in detail before remediation begins, so nothing is lost or overlooked once mitigation work starts.

03

Policy analysis

We read your policy line by line, identifying every applicable coverage: dwelling, contents, additional living expenses, ordinance and law upgrades, and any special endorsements relevant to your loss. Carriers rely on policyholders not knowing their full entitlement. We make sure every applicable provision is put to work.

04

Claim preparation

We prepare a comprehensive claim package with moisture mapping reports, photographs, repair estimates, and full supporting documentation. We submit to your carrier with a detailed scope that makes it very difficult for them to dispute or minimize the extent of your loss.

05

Negotiation and settlement

We represent you through every carrier interaction, from the first scope review through final settlement. We push back on low estimates with documented evidence, address every carrier objection, and do not accept a settlement until the recovery reflects the true cost of restoring your property.

Water Damage FAQ

Common questions about Water Damage claims

No jargon. If yours isn't here, just ask.

Does my homeowner's policy cover water damage? add

Most standard homeowner policies cover sudden and accidental water damage, such as a burst pipe or appliance failure, but exclude gradual leaks and flooding from external sources. Flooding from outside the home requires a separate NFIP or private flood insurance policy. We review your specific policy language to confirm exactly what is covered and which of your losses fall within that coverage, so you know what you are entitled to before we file.

The insurer is calling my damage "pre-existing." What can I do? add

This is one of the most common tactics carriers use to reduce or deny water damage claims. We document the actual cause and timeline of the damage with photographic evidence, moisture reports, and inspection findings that directly challenge the pre-existing determination. Many claims that initially receive this designation are successfully challenged when we present thorough documentation of the event that caused the loss.

My claim was approved but the settlement amount seems too low. Can a public adjuster still help? add

Yes. This is one of the most common situations we handle. A carrier approving your claim at a reduced value is not the end of the negotiation. We review the scope the carrier applied, identify items that were missed or undervalued, and formally challenge the settlement with our own documentation and estimate. We have recovered additional funds on claims the policyholder believed were already finalized.

There is mold from the water damage. Is mold remediation covered? add

Mold that develops as a direct result of a covered water event is typically covered under the same claim. However, mold from a long-standing or gradual leak may be excluded, and some policies have separate sublimits for mold remediation. We analyze the mold's source and timeline in the context of your policy language and fight to include full remediation costs in your claim wherever there is a valid basis to do so.

Do I have to use the contractor the insurance company recommends? add

No. You have the right to hire your own licensed restoration contractor. Insurance companies sometimes steer policyholders toward preferred contractors who work to the carrier's scope rather than yours. We help you evaluate contractor estimates, compare them against the carrier's proposed scope, and identify where the carrier's scope is inadequate. We never accept referral fees from contractors, so our advice is always in your interest.

The damage is inside my walls. How do you find and document it? add

Hidden water damage is exactly where insurance company adjusters cut corners. We use moisture meters to detect elevated moisture readings inside wall assemblies and under flooring, and thermal imaging to visualize temperature differentials that indicate wet areas behind finished surfaces. If moisture is present behind drywall or under subfloor, we document it and include the cost of opening and repairing those areas in your claim. Documentation from these tools is very difficult for carriers to dispute.
